The Glory Days at Mankato East High SchoolA New StartPlease examine the two pictures below:
I'll never forget the first day I walked into Mankato East High School. No guys said hello and no girls looked twice. I'll also never forget the last day of high school. I gave the commencement address and walked off the stage with a standing ovation. I loved my high school friends and my days at Mankato East. I was never much of an athlete, although I played a mean game of basketball. I found my niche though in speech and government related activities. I went to two state speech tournaments, finished fourth in the state in extemporaneous speaking my senior year and was captain of the debate team. It was Boys State though, that eventually led me to Georgetown. Boys State and Boys NationIn the summer of my Junior Year I went up to the Minnesota Boys' State program. I started giving speeches right away, raised a little hell and ended up being elected 1993 Minnesota Boys State Governor. I had an opportunity to go to Washington DC to meet President Clinton and it was that experience that led me to study political theory in our nation's capitol. |
